Van Wert bowlers sweep Elida Bulldogs

Van Wert High School’s bowling teams swept Western Buckeye League foe Elida on Thursday.

Van Wert 2796 Elida 2424 (boys)

Van Wert’s varsity boys’ bowling team defeated the Elida Bulldogs 2796-2424 at Olympic Lanes.

High scores of the day were Ian Ellis (214, 242), Nathan Bidlack (195, 248), Derek Fanning (193), Gavin Barnes and Steele Stabler (161). Also contributing to the team was Troy Weaks.

The junior varsity team topped Elida 2192-1905. High scores of the day were Collin Mosier (203, 214), Zachary Stevens (170), and Jose Agular (161). Also contributing to the team were Sam Cassidy, Nicholus McPhail and Dante Jones.

The Cougars will face Wapakoneta at Highland Lanes in Ottawa on Saturday, and the JV team will bowl against Celina at Varsity Lanes in St. Marys on Saturday.

Van Wert 2318 Elida 1744 (girls)

The Lady Cougars posted their season high team series, while topping Elida 2318-1744.

In the fourth baker team game the Lady Cougars bowled a new record score of 222, breaking the 14-year-old record of 220. Top scores came from Allison Hauter (155, 156), Kaylee McPhail (167) and Lorrie Decker (192, 186).

The Varsity girls improved to 4-3 overall and (2-3 Western Buckeye League).

The JV final score was 1858-1037 in favor of Van Wert. Top scores came from Ashley Matthews (157, 197), Kayla Papke (136) and Hanna Say (133).

The JV overall record stand at 3-2 (2-2 WBL).

The varsity girls next opponent will be Lima Senior at Highland Lanes in Ottawa on Saturday, while the junior varsity will bowl against Lima Senior at Varsity Lanes in St. Marys the same day.
