OAK HARBOR — Van Wert diver Madison Jarrett missed qualifying for the Division II state meet by the narrowest of margins Wednesday morning.
Competing in the Division II district meet at Oak Harbor High School, Jarrett finished 12th less than a half point out of the 11th and final state qualifying spot. The top 11 finishers at the district meet advanced to next weeks state championships in Canton.
Jarrett, a junior, finished 12th in the 32 person field with a score of 319.35. Her score was .35 behind 11th place finisher Alaina Schultz of Port Clinton, who finished with score of 319.70.
Junior teammate Adrianna Grothause finished 29th at the meet with a score of 115.65.
Huron junior Emma Kerro won the Division II district diving championship with a score of 421.55.
Cougar swimmers miss cut
BOWLING GREEN — Van Wert swimmers were in action Friday at the Division II district meet at Bowling Green State University’s Cooper Pool. The Cougar swimmers turned in some excellent times Friday, but were unable to place in the four events they were competing in.
The top finish for the Cougars at BGSU was the ladies 400 Freestyle Relay team as they finished 19th in a time of 4:04.91, which was a second quicker than what they swam at the sectional meet last Saturday.
Freshman Jamie Burenga finished 28th in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:09.28. Her time was nearly two seconds quicker than her seed time from the sectional.
On the boys side, Van Wert’s 200 Freestyle Relay team finished 23rd in 1:40.81. This time was a second and a half quicker than their seed time.
Junior Noah Arend finished 30th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.71, which also was a second and a half quicker than his seed time for the meet.
