Cougar swimmers hold banquet

VAN WERT – The Van Wert High School swim team held its end of the season awards banquet with refreshments and a ceremony. Head coach Megan Hurless, along with assistant coaches Martha Martin and Keith Rydell, honored seven senior Cougars: Chloe Brake, Brayden Cox, Rebekah Fast, Stephen Hamblett, Dalton Heppeard, Madison Turnwald and Emma Verville.

Fifteen swimmers and divers maintained a 3.0 grade point average during the season and received Scholar Athlete awards: Chloe Brake, Brayden Cox, Rebekah Fast, Stephen Hamblett, Dalton Heppeard, Madison Turnwald, Emma Verville, Adrianna Grothouse, Noelle Heffner, Madison Jarrett, Katie McVaigh, Jamie Burenga, Allie Etter, Rachel Spath and Becky Rigdon.

Varsity letters were also presented. First year varsity letter winners include Stephen Hamblett, Adrianna Grothouse, Holden Reichert and Jamie Burenga. Second year varsity letter winners are Chloe Brake, Brayden Cox, and Noelle Heffner.Rebekah Fast, Dalton Heppeard, Emma Verville, Noah Arend and Madison Jarrett earned their third year varsity letter, with senior Madison Turnwald earning a varsity letter during all four years of her VWHS swimming career.              

Participation awards were given to swimmers Allie Etter, Olivia Kline, Rachel Spath, Becky Rigdon and Octavius Tucker.
