Cougar tennis gains first win

KENTON — Van Wert's boys tennis team traveled to Kenton on Wednesday evening and earned its first victory of the season, a 4-1 triumph over the Wildcats. The Cougars are now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in Western Buckeye League matches.

Van Wert dominated the singles matches, led by senior Michael Etter, who won his match at first singles at love, 6-0, 6-0. Kannen Wannemacher won 6-2, 6-3 at second singles, and Michael Hellman won at third singles, 6-1, 6-4.

The first doubles duo of Kaden Thomas and Zane Fast needed a first-set tie-breaker, but grabbed at, 7-2, to spur a straight-sets win. Only the second singles combination of Storm Pierce and Nathan Ruger wound up on the short end of the scoring. After winning their opening set, that team dropped the second and third sets, but the team match had already been decided
